“Success by creating something special” – Salzland Druck GmbH & Co. KG in Staßfurt has lived by this motto since its foundation over one hundred years ago. The owner-operated family company, with its more than 70 employees, is one of Germany’s leading special print service providers. The full-service print shop focuses on UV technology and concentrates on its industry customers, agencies, specialist publishing companies and public sector clients. For this demanding clientele, who are some of the market leaders in their particular sectors, the portfolio of products is extremely diverse. It ranges from folder systems, through training and presentation offerings, displays, stickers, labels and foil and cardboard packaging, to magazines, loose leaf
publications and books.

“Postpress is precisely the area where the final touches are given to the products and they can be individually finished to create something special,” confirms Christian Heinrich, Managing Partner at Salzland Druck. “This is why we decided on systematic development in this area and we have been producing with our Easymatrix 106 C die cutter since the beginning of this year.” Christian Heinrich was impressed by the specialist consultancy services provided by the Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Vertrieb Deutschland GmbH experts, who gave extensive, competent support during installation and commissioning, including concerning the suitable cutting tool technology.

Customers benefit from the completed value chain

With the Easymatrix 106 C, Salzland Druck is now able to completely produce the high-quality foil, plastic and cardboard products itself. Furthermore, subproducts required for the production of training and presentation offerings as well as folder systems can also be created. “In this way, we can offer our customers even more impressive products, further develop our consultancy expertise and also acquire customers for new projects,” says Christian Heinrich confidently.

This is precisely what the new die cutter has facilitated and it has even surpassed Heinrich’s expectations. “Each of our jobs is unusual, from plastic stand-up displays for the B2B sector, through kiss cut stickers, to foil folders with a material thickness of up to 800 µm and cardboard products with highly-complex cutting geometries.” The Easymatrix 106 C processes all these materials without any problems and it boasts impressive equipment, which includes quick-lock frames, test sheet removal, registers at all the stations as well as simple touchscreen operation and other features that ensure extremely short makeready times. With an average run of 10,000 cut sheets per production job, it is possible to achieve a production time including makeready of less than three hours in some cases, depending on the material used. A further advantage is the very good price-performance ratio and the high degree of flexibility of the Easymatrix 106 C.

Heidelberg introduced the Easymatrix at drupa 2016. Since then, worldwide sales of the die cutter have been very good and it is another product stemming from the successful cooperation between Heidelberg and its partner MK Masterwork.

Service mentality requires transparency and a high level of availability

The Salzland Druck pressroom features a six-color Speedmaster CD 102 UV with coating unit, which creates excellent results on foil, plastic and paper with highly-pigmented and light-resistant colors. Next to this is a Speedmaster SM 102 with a perfecting device which prints the front and reverse sides in one pass. The presses are networked with the modern prepress setup via the Prinect Pressroom Manager. “The trend towards Industry 4.0 has made it essential to ensure cost and production transparency in all areas. This results in advantages such as material cost savings and lean production, as well as transparency and flexibility with respect to the customer,” confirms Christian Heinrich. The company operates in three shifts. “We use the Heidelberg remote service, and the service and maintenance agreements guarantee a high degree of machine availability, including plannable costs.” Saphira consumables, such as printing plates and inks, are also used.

To ensure punctual and reliable delivery of the high-quality end products, Salzland Druck operates its own fleet of vehicles. “At our company, everything revolves around the customers; we provide them with special products and special services – and this is even more the case now we have the complete value chain,” summarizes Christian Heinrich.
