Versafire EP: digital printing with that extra something

The digital printing business of Galloways is growing and growing. To increase its production capacity, the long-established English printing company opted for a Versafire EP with Prinect Digital Frontend for a significant boost in performance and quality.

Bound by tradition

For Galloways, this has meant 150 years of looking ahead. So it is no wonder that the commercial printing company based south of Manchester is one of the Great Britain’s web-to-print pioneers and makes almost a third of its sales from digital printing. However, it was not able to realize existing growth potential with its installed Linoprint. Galloways therefore looked around for a new digital printing system, and opted for a Versafire EP with Prinect Digital Frontend (DFE). Its goals? Higher print rate, more automation, easy operation, and greater flexibility.

Easy operation and successful new business

In a comparison of different digital printing systems, the Versafire EP with DFE came out ahead for several reasons. These include the very high productivity (4,500 A3 sheets per hour), a wide range of substrates up to grammages of 470 g/m2, or special formats such as banners up to 1,030 mm long in straight printing and perfecting.

What ultimately tipped the balance for the Versafire EP were the ease of integration into the existing MIS and into the production workflows, as well as the digital printing system’s operating concept via Prinect DFE. The operator sees a preview of the print job live on the monitor at all times. This means that settings such as automatic impositioning, paper choice, or color adaptations can be reviewed prior to printing. Each of the various Prinect settings, specially developed to meet the needs of commercial customers, are clearly shown and visualized in the preview. Galloways emphasizes the user friendliness and intuitive operation of the DFE as well as the associated time savings in production.

With the new Versafire EP, it has been able to increase its existing capacities in digital printing by around 250 percent. “The Versafire EP with Prinect DFE takes our productivity to a whole new level,” says Managing Director Matt Galloway about the increase in performance. “The same applies to quality, since the comprehensive functions of Prinect are quick and easy to use and enable us to deliver the best possible results for each and every customer.”

The Prinect DFE has enabled Galloways to push the limits of what the machine can do, and offer numerous products and applications for its customers. And it has done so successfully: “Our sales figures have been going up since we installed the Versafire EP,” reports Matt Galloway with satisfaction.
