Intellistart 3 and Intellirun in the 2020 generation of the Speedmaster are striking examples of the opportunities that digitalization of press functionalities currently has to offer. Based on the job data, the machine software calculates a sensible and thus cost-effective sequence for the print jobs to be processed. At the same time, intelligent machine assistants, such as the Wash Assistant, know what is necessary to prepare the next job and adapt their settings accordingly. The machine automatically processes the job sequence. This minimizes the need for changeovers and manual intervention from operators. The result is a Push to Stop concept that maximizes automation and minimizes manual touchpoints.
Preset 2.0, Wash Assistant, Powder Assistant, and Color Assistant: these Artificial Intelligence features reduce manual interventions to a minimum and increase the competitiveness of print shops.
Immerse yourself in the new world of the Heidelberg User Experience (UX): completely rethought and clearer than ever before, it sets new standards for the user experience.
Before Push to Stop, processes had to be actively started by the operator. Today, the press schedules the jobs in the most efficient sequence based on AI and controlled by Push to Stop. The operator only interrupts the autonomously running production process if necessary. This raises the effectiveness of print production to previously unattainable levels and enables better planning of processes while continuous process monitoring lowers the error rate.
Thanks to components such as Prinect Business Manager and Prinect Production Manager, our Prinect workflow acts as an umbrella covering the entire production process. All relevant data is transmitted directly to prepress, plate production, printing presses, and postpress machines – regardless of the printing process in use. Production can be carried out with either offset presses or digital printing systems as required.
Prinect Business connects. It integrates your business processes, your production, your analysis and your customers in a smart print shop workflow. By automating your business processes, you will open up new potential, maximize your margins and meet your customers’ needs.
Prinect Production digitizes your print shop. It automates your production as well as your color and quality management and provides important data for analyses and reporting. With Prinect Production, the smart integration of your digital printing press ensures you are also perfectly equipped for short runs and variable data printing.
Digital transformation goes far beyond the physical assets within the print shop and the workflow. Machine maintenance, staff training and supply logistics are also integral parts of the solutions for digital transformation offered by Heidelberg.
The Heidelberg Cloud is our central service platform for remote maintenance and other remote services. In operation worldwide since 2004, it enables you to connect your Heidelberg equipment and software products over a secure and flexible cloud service to the Heidelberg Service center.

AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) play an increasingly important role for digital transformation in the workplace. For example: they can help a technician visualize service parts that are built at the core of the machine without having to disassemble it or provide a press operator with instructions and guidance on machine operations.
Paving the way to the future of work on the shop floor, Heidelberg opened a so-called Future Workshop as soon as 2018 to initiate trainees to these new technologies. Trainee mechatronics engineers can use VR tools to inspect the insides of a printing press, for example. A special set of VR goggles enables them to navigate around a virtual environment simulating assembly, maintenance, and repair work. This makes the product transparent and more easily understandable for apprentices.
Over the last 4 years, Heidelberg has perfected autonomous print production through its Push to Stop technology on Speedmaster presses. Greater efficiency in print production, however, can also result in some hiccups downstream in finishing. At the delivery of a high-performance folder, the operator stacks around seven tons of paper on the pallet each shift. Each pile weighs almost eighteen pounds and arrives at a rate of up to five per minute. The stress on the operator usually means the folder must be slowed down, interrupted, or even stopped, so the operator can take a break.
Enter the Stahlfolder P-Stacker, a robust, six-axis industrial robot that gently and securely grips and autonomously places each signature pile onto a pallet using sophisticated gripper technology. The P-Stacker has been optimized to ensure zero marking as the signature piles are gripped and transferred to the pallet at a speed of up to 300 stacks per hour (stacks can range from 5.70” x 5.70” to 13” x 13”). Additionally, it can be programmed with a variety of pallet set down configurations, and every stack is jogged prior to palletization.
