Vista Color Continues Investment in Heidelberg Technology with New Speedmaster XL 106

Kennesaw, Ga. – After over five decades in business, Vista Color Corporation of Miami, Florida is proud to be an independently-owned, third-generation family run company. The flexible packaging and folding carton converter attributes its success to the company’s overwhelming commitment to customer service and continuous investment in the newest technology. To aid in its goal of achieving folding carton sales of over $30 million in the next 2-3 years, Vista Color recently installed a new Speedmaster XL 106-7+LYYL with inline UV and FoilStar capabilities from Heidelberg. The new press will play a key role in better balancing the plant’s workload to increase speed-to-market and overall product quality.

Improving Operational Velocity

Vista Color’s newest XL 106, which is equipped with Heidelberg’s new intelligent User Experience (UX), autonomous Push-to-Stop technology, and AutoPlate Pro, the automatic plate changing device, will replace another XL 106 the company installed in 2017. “When we purchased our last press, we believed we needed a machine dedicated to producing our less complex, more standardized jobs,” says Jess Hernandez, President of Vista Color. “What we found, however, is that we still had an overwhelming need to produce jobs with foil and multiple coating effects.” The demand for more complex, intricate packaging from Vista Color’s many high-end customers started to put a burden on the company’s other press, a 2013 XL 106-7+LYYL. By installing a newer press with the same configuration, the company believes that it will have more flexibility in scheduling jobs between the two presses, and the FoilStar inline foiling capabilities will remove a needed additional step of production, which in turn helps control costs for Vista Color’s customers.

The new press will also aid in the company’s overall efficiency and faster “operational velocity” due to the software improvements and automation capabilities of the newest generation of Speedmasters. The new Heidelberg UX, together with a whole host of assistance systems, provides the best possible support for operators at the Prinect Press Center XL 3 control station and at the press itself. Additionally, to ensure makeready times are kept short, the patented Intellistart 3 system automatically determines the makeready processes required for jobs to be produced. “Heidelberg is the best in the industry when it comes to embracing technology,” says Hernandez. “This newly enhanced technology really aids in the operator-friendliness of the machine.”

Having now purchased seven presses from Heidelberg in the last twenty years, Hernandez says, “The Heidelberg experience has always helped us stay ahead.” In addition to purchasing Heidelberg presses, Vista Color also has a Heidelberg Suprasetter CtP and uses Saphira plates along with other Heidelberg press consumables. With the new XL 106, Vista Color has signed on for a new Performance Package, which monitors and drives press performance while providing machine management solutions to ensure maximum output. According to Hernandez, “Heidelberg knows the value of partnerships and longevity is more important than just the press sale.”
