Speedmaster XL 106-8-P. Peak Performance technology leads to 22-percent increase in productivity.

Nothing beats the perfecting technology of the Speedmaster

“Our Speedmaster XL 106-8-P was installed at the beginning of 2014 and increased productivity by 22 percent from the very outset. That’s why, one year on, we’ve decided to invest in another XL 106-8-P. With a print speed of 18,000 sheets per hour, this press is also equipped with the AutoPlate XL simultaneous plate changer and Prinect Inpress Control inline color and register measurement system,” says Andrew Jones, Managing Director of Stephens & George.

Now in its fourth generation, the S&G Print Group has been producing high-quality commercial material since 1912, and currently has a workforce of over 220 in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. But Stephens & George also expresses its commitment to the printed word far beyond the business of creating print products. The aim of the Stephens & George Centenary Charitable Trust is to help young people improve their reading and writing skills so that they will have better career prospects. This is an important initiative for an area that has the highest rate of unemployment in the UK. The S&G Print Group works closely with local authorities and organizations on this project – for instance, by setting up themed libraries in schools. This provides a creative environment for encouraging young people to focus on their reading and writing.

Before investing in the new Speedmaster XL 106, the company carried out a detailed supplier analysis. But in the end, all roads led back to the Speedmaster technology from Heidelberg. “In our opinion, nothing beats the perfecting technology of the Speedmaster. We expect the new press to deliver a further 30-percent boost in capacity. And given the number of jobs we receive, we will need it,” says Andrew Jones. “The print market is still developing well,” he adds. “Digital has not affected our portfolio. With these short makeready times, we can produce a 500-sheet run using offset printing very cost-effectively.”
