Glastonbury’s newspaper, is prepared and printed in the Festival’s Free Press section. Every year, two issues are published, with thousands of copies printed and distributed free of charge. Did you know this newspaper is printed on a vintage 1950s 7-ton HEIDELBERG Cylinder Press?
The manual action of the letterpress is a source of fascination and excitement for the thousands of visitors to the Free Press section, including children and veterans from Fleet Street. And looking back now, from today’s digital-first vantage point, it reminds us at HEIDELBERG of the long journey that the print industry has traversed.
HEIDELBERG’s History
This year, HEIDELBERG is turning 175! It’s our honour and privilege to invest in giving back to the community. The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is one of the UK’s biggest cultural events. It’s also a well-established institution, currently in its 75th year of operation.
Last year, around 210,000 people attended the Festival, with approximately 2.5 million people competing for these tickets. That’s right - more than two full Wembley Stadiums’ worth of music fans attended Glastonbury 2024.
HEIDELBERG is proud to partner with the Festival and the Free Press section this year at Glastonbury 2025.
Supporting the Community
As part of this partnership, we are happy to offer an apprenticeship to ONE young person suggested by Glastonbury Festival Events Ltd and its partners.
This apprentice will receive training as a printing machine engineer. Working across all our equipment, they will learn a variety of skills and techniques on our presses. They will also gain a better understanding of the print industry and modern printing practices. What’s more, the apprentice will receive a job offer if a relevant position is available upon successful completion of the programme.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up for a HEIDELBERG apprenticeship today!
