Core Image switches from Konica to Heidelberg digital technology

28/04/2017

Glasgow printer Core Image is this week installing a Versafire CV five-colour digital press from Heidelberg. The replacement for a Konica model was decided only after a thorough review of the market.

“The larger format and the option to add white or clear in addition to the four process colours gave this press added value to us,” says David Hunter, managing director. “We looked at the Ricoh but the Heidelberg Digital Front End swung it. We are familiar with Prinect, really like the colour management and the Versafire has been profiled to our Speedmaster. All processes and devices are now controlled through Prinect Cockpit and we can output as easily to digital as we can for the litho process.”

Quality rather than volume is key for Core Image and the digital department undertook thorough tests before coming down in favour of the Heidelberg press and RIP.

It is two years since the Glasgow company invested in a new Suprasetter with Auto Loader which feeds its Speedmaster 52-5+L press installed last year and it is outputting over 1,200 plates a month. At that time the workflow was upgraded to include: Prepress Manager; Integration Manager; Signastation imposition software; PDF Toolbox; and Pressroom Manager. Now it will also have Digital Print Manager.

The company runs a double day shift system although the Versafire CV will run single shifts, increasing to double days when demand dictates.

Services include litho, digital and wide format printing and finishing services. The company has recently celebrated 25 years in business.
