Prepress is the focus for Color Co investment this year

13/12/2016

Color Co in Cheltenham is updating and automating its prepress operations to smooth out problems with preparation of jobs and to enhance throughput. It is taking delivery of a Suprasetter A 75 and the Prinect Prepress Manager software. Installation and training will take place before the end of the year.

“Our existing Suprasetter is six years old and we operate 24 hours a day with one CtP device and so we need to know it will be 100% reliable. We have a policy of regular reinvestment for this reason and the latest Suprasetter looks very robust,” says Ashley Wainwright, managing director.

The Color Co will use the new equipment and software to service their existing B2 presses. At present it uses SignaStation imposition software and a MetaDimension RIP but with the more comprehensive Prepress Manager it will have more automation and added options.

“We can have reports to show our clients how a job has performed and the new software will also highlight issues with files ahead of work going to the pressroom, perhaps a picture that is too low res or a job supplied in RGB rather than CMYK. It will also reduce the amount of manual intervention because, for instance, it will automatically add bleed,” says Mr Wainwright.

“Staff welcome any investment the company makes but especially when it is in products that take the pressure off them and Prepress Manager will do that.”

Color Co handles about 23 trade magazine titles, each with a run of 5,000 to 50,000 month. It also remains a strong and active player in the commercial printing sector, too, producing a large range of material including brochures, flyers and business stationery. It has many blue chip customers on its client list. The company offers a design service as digital and litho services.
