Sudbury is first UK company with Polar BC330

02/11/2016

Sudbury Print Group is the first company in the UK to take delivery of a Polar BC330 single knife trimmer. It is also adding a Polar 115 Autotrim with loader, jogger and Transomat materials handling system.

“We handle bookwork and needed a three-knife trimmer. We investigated our options. When we tested the BC330 at Polar in Germany we were really impressed when it handled work prone to mark without any quality or productivity issues whatsoever. The carrier table is very forgiving for even the most challenging stocks. That convinced us to buy it,” says Jeremy Richold, managing director of the Suffolk business.

“It has the robust build of a Polar machine and the touch screen technology makes it very easy to plan work. The cutting programmes are created in under one minute which is incredible. The quality of output is impressive; it is clever technology and easy to use.”

The BC330 uses just one knife to cut all three edges of a book or magazine and there is no switching of gripper heads with this system and no additional tools are required. Once the signatures are stacked at the feeder end and the programme set the operator is free to undertake other tasks, returning to move finished work on to the next stage of production. It is an ideal machine for any company with binding or saddle-stitching kit.

The Polar 115 Autotrim replaces a Wohlenberg guillotine at Sudbury Print Group. The Autotrim means waste is automatically removed during production and, combined with the materials handling, it is a highly productive line.

Sudbury Print Group has had a steady migration towards Heidelberg equipment over recent years. Today it runs Speedmaster XL presses (B1 and B2) and last year it added two automated folders, a Stahlfolder KH82 and a TH82 (a combination and buckle model).

The company has a customer-focused strategy, offering production advice and encouraging people to visit their premises and see their operation in action.
