JPL Print switches press supplier

04/04/2016

Halesowen business JPL Print & Design has switched B2 press supplier. It has just taken delivery of a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 -5+L which will help produce a comprehensive range of commercial print jobs for its customers nationwide.

The JPL team looked at both Komori and Heidelberg options but it was the overall

performance and projected return on investment that decided them on the

Speedmaster press. The company had been reviewing its options over a two year period.

“The automatic colour package featuring Prinect Inpress Control was the deciding factor for us,” says Mark Kay, joint owner and director alongside Jim Lynch.

“It will allow us to run effortlessly to ISO 12647-2 standards, to minimise makeready times and attain consistently high production speeds. The press is right for us because we handle a broad range of work, including packaging on stocks from 80gsm through to 800 micron board. It will increase our productivity significantly. “

The purchase was a commercial decision and involved sales manager Mike Harrold who added: “Having the extra unit for specials and a dedicated coater for fast turnrounds (we expect 80% of our work to be coated) will allow us to service existing multi-colour work better and to break into new markets. It is a flexible, fast press and a platform for growth for our company.”

JPL retains a Speedmaster SM 52-5 and will in future source its consumables from Heidelberg, a move it says will give price stability and guaranteed availability of product and service.

It made a committed move into the large format market place four years ago. That, together with recent investment into small format digital, means that established and new customers can work with the business in new areas. It is a welcome development. Further investment In April 2016 will result in the opening of an in-house creative design studio.

To support these new areas of investment, JPL is currently recruiting for sales and marketing positions which will enable the Birmingham company to maintain positive growth and profitability.
