Thomson Print & Packaging has added a Suprasetter A 52 CtP device to replace a Fuji system and with that extended its Prinect workflows to include Prepress Manager (it already has Prinect pressroom software).
The company is a keen Heidelberg advocate with Speedmaster SM and SX presses which are run with Heidelberg consumables. The company was an early adopter of the Online Shop which makes the ordering of plates, inks and parts very quick and easy, almost Amazon for the printing industry.
“The Fuji CtP and workflow was eight years old and we knew we needed to upgrade. By switching to Heidelberg we can benefit from the service levels in Scotland. It is a manufacturer we know well,” says Jim Thomson, managing director.
“The equipment and software has arrived. We had excellent training at start up and this is going to continue with secondary training in two weeks’ time to iron out any issues we have come across now it is up and running.”
Thomson Print & Packaging has a loyal customer base, many in the Scottish drinks industry. It is a business which offers a personal and dedicated service with an emphasis on quality. It likes to have control and so has a broad spread of facilities including foil blocking, forme cutting, embossing, debossing, creasing and ram punching.
It constantly adapts and invests in services as customer demand changes. In the last few months it has added a new Gietz foil blocker and also a reel fed self-adhesive line in addition to its latest spend with Heidelberg. This focus on in-house control has paid off, enabling the business to ride the recession and to currently be enjoying good sales levels.
The Edinburgh company operates flexible days. Mr Thomson’s wife Veronica and sons Barry and Michael work within the business. It is a truly family affair.
