11/02/2021

  • Fretwell replaced their 5-year-old XL 75-5+LX with a new Heidelberg XL 75 5-L
  • The productivity increase is attributable to Inpress Control and Autoplate Pro
  • The company used the government’s low rate CIBLS finance package

As part of the company’s strategy to stay ahead of the curve in a competitive market the team replaced their 5-year-old XL 75-5+LX, with a new Heidelberg XL 75 5-L with AutoPlate Pro, Inpress Control and new integrated Prinect product suite.

Fretwell Print & Design Ltd is one of the leading UK based companies experienced in the production of Direct Mail along with all other aspects of high-quality commercial print. Over the last 15 years turnover has risen from less than £1 million to over £6 million. This has been achieved by a policy of recruiting the best people in the industry, and continually investing in the latest technology.

“We replaced the XL 75-5+LX (Inpress Control) with a newer model in order to increase productivity. After a thorough analysis of our work mix, Heidelberg identified that due to the Push to Stop Technology with Auto Plate Pro and the increased productivity, we could achieve extra capacity of an additional 1.5 days a month based upon existing shift patterns. We have also reduced waste and running costs. At the same time, CIBLS offered us a great opportunity to invest,” says Andy Gillett, joint managing director, Fretwell Print & Direct Mail.

The productivity increase is attributable to Inpress Control and Autoplate Pro. Prinect Inpress Control measures colour and registration inline at make ready and during production, reducing makeready times and waste sheets. AutoPlate Pro ensures precise and fast plate changes while wallscreen technology with Push to Stop is unique in offset printing as it ensures fully automated job changing.

The quality assurance provided by the latest technology is helping production meet tighter deadlines and will help Fretwell maintain their competitive position in the market.

For this investment, Fretwell used the government’s low rate CIBLS finance package, arranged through Mark Quinn of Bespoke Asset Finance.

Working closely with major financial clients, charities, print management companies, local government and educational establishments, plus other commercial clients in various market sectors, this West Yorkshire based company has a trading history of more than 40 years and has grown to offer high quality digital and litho production along with a full direct mail solution in both the UK and Republic of Ireland. The investment in the new XL 75 is intended to ensure that Fretwell remains at the cutting-edge of technology and customer service.
