Read the interview of Mark Matthews, a young and talented executive of Heidelberg UK.

What is your current job title?

My designation is ‘Reverse Logistics Support Executive’.

What exactly do you do at our company?

I handle Reverse Logistics, which is essentially supply chain management of spare parts and equipment that flow in the reverse direction, that is, from our customers back to Heidelberg’s offices.

I ensure that such parts are logged in correctly, that none are missing, and that they are all moved accurately back to our Logistics Centre.

So far, what has been your favorite project?

It has been an exciting time for me, my entire three months since I joined the Company! I am in the process of implementing a new reverse logistics process that will ensure efficiencies and save time as well. Once we complete this, we will be offering our customers even fastest delivery of spare parts with a higher on-time record.

I enjoy my role as it’s quite challenging. Moving backward through the supply chain is quite demanding and complex because spare parts are moving against the normal flow of supply and demand.

What is your favorite aspect about the printing industry?

Print touches the daily lives of most people, be it in the form of newspapers, magazines, or books, food packaging, or labels on medicines, for example.

Print can reach millions of people very quickly through the high speed processes we have introduced into the market over time. The state-of-the-art technologies that play a part in creating those printed products are transparent to the ultimate reader, but we play a hands-on part on making them happen behind the scenes, and that makes the world of Print very exciting for me personally!

I am very proud to be a part of the support system for printers and to assist them in their everyday work and challenges, so that they can keep their production running without any downtime which can be critical for their operations.

What is the location of your hometown?

I am originally from Durban Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa.

What is it about you that most people don’t know?

I love airplanes and flying! I plan to complete my flying course and obtain my private pilot license in the years ahead.

Which is your favorite destination you’ve visited, and why?

Thailand is the perfect tropical destination, ideal for island hopping, white sandy beaches, exotic food and drinks. The country offers you a wide range of unique tourist spots which offer activities that suit every traveller’s need. You can enjoy a vibrant city life and modern art at Bangkok, or you can laze on the beaches off Krabi, for example.

The best thing about Thailand is its 24-hour access to food! You can find all kinds of cuisines and markets open almost all through 24 hours!

Where do you want to go on your ideal vacation?

I would like to visit South America. I would love to explore the culture and food of places like Chile, the Amazon, and Peru, and meet the people there. I love off the track adventures and would love to visit the beaches of Rio, the Galápagos Islands, Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu, and, of course, Patagonia. I also want experience the city life in Argentina throughout Buenos Aires!
