W&G Baird will this month take delivery of two new Stahlfolders, a BH82 buckle model with round pile feeder and a CH78 combination model with pallet feeder. These will replace older folders after 15-20 years’ service and will give the Antrim company a lift of 30-40% in folding output.
Bairds is a progressive company with a long heritage, over 150 years, which today offers litho, digital and large format services and handles a wide range of commercial work including leaflets, business cards, books, magazines and prospectuses.
“We come back to Heidelberg because we love their service,” says Patrick Moffett, managing director. “Getting jobs out quickly is vital and finishing is a part of that process so it is important we have up to date equipment. The older folders take a lot of skill to run and these new folders will make life easier for the operators.”
Both the Stahlfolder BH82 and CH78 are compact models with good automation capable of handling stocks from 40 to 250gsm. The BH82 with the round continuous feeder can accommodate a pile height of 80cm and will handle sheets of up to 820 x 1280mm. The CH 78 with the pallet feeder can handle piles of up to 120cm and will run sheets of up to 780 x 1,200mm.
W&G Baird is finding business steady with similar volumes of print to 2018 to date. The company is a £14m turnover company employing about 100 staff and with sales offices in Dublin and Nottingham. It is one of the largest commercial printers in Northern Ireland.
