Straight B2 press to supplement long perfector at Chapel Press

08/08/2019

Chapel Press is expanding. A surge in business over the last year means it needs another litho press.

A Heidelberg Speedmaster CX75-5+L, a five colour B2 press with coater, will arrive and be installed alongside Chapel’s existing Speedmaster XL75-10P long perfector press in September.

Chapel Press looked at Komori press options but judged that the new Heidelberg Speedmaster CX platform was the most efficient and technologically advanced model it had reviewed, offering the best value for money.

“We have both litho and digital technology but it seems to be the litho side that is expanding currently,” says Tim O’Shea, managing director. “The ten-colour is working 24 hours, five days a week but we are still needing weekend overtime often. The CX 75 will relieve the pressure and will be great for shorter runs and single sided work and the coater will help with quick turnaround work. We have a client who has regular four colour and gold metallic work which needs coating which the CX will be perfect for. The press will generate additional work from our existing client base as well as opening doors to many new clients.”

The new press arrives next month and will be run initially on a single shift basis but Mr O’Shea predicts it will move to double day shifts within six months.

A new operator has been taken on to be trained up for the ten colour leaving the pressroom manager free to switch across to the Speedmaster CX75.

Today the company handles work from many differing areas such as advertising and design agencies, direct clients along with organisations where Chapel have been successful in achieving preferred supplier status by going through many rigorous tender processes. These include Manchester University, Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester, NPower, BASF, BAE and several others.

Chapel Press was established 36 years ago by Tim O’Shea with the objective of producing print to a high standard with a competitive pricing structure and to be financially secure which is still the objective today.
