A new chapter in training began this month at one of our customer sites in Exeter, with the deinstallation and reinstallation of a used Speedmaster SM 52 perfecter from HEIDELBERG. This project marks the first stage in preparing the press for its new home in our workshop at Stockley Park, where it will become the centrepiece of our apprentice training programme.

Led by Supervisor Andy Pratt, our four apprentices - Hamza Baber, Tom Buck, Max Cates, and Jace Mayfield - rolled up their sleeves to tackle the fundamentals of HEIDELBERG engineering. They are learning some of the essential skills underpinning the profession, from electrical connections and mechanical assembly to the safe lifting and moving of heavy industrial equipment. And, as every engineer knows, a lot of cleaning is part of the job too!

Once installed, the Speedmaster SM 52 will serve as a training hub for:

  • Mechanical assembly and refurbishment
  • Electrical fault finding
  • Press operation and printing techniques

This hands on experience is more than just a project. We consider it a foundation that we're laying for the future. By training our latest batch of apprentices in multi skilled techniques, while addressing real world challenges, we are preparing the next generation of HEIDELBERG engineers to face anything that the industry might throw at them. The journey has only just begun, but the enthusiasm and commitment of our apprentices show that the future of engineering is in capable hands. We wish them the very best!
