Transforming IML printing: Everest’s journey with end-to-end solutions from HEIDELBERG - from prepress to press and postpress

Established in 2005, Everest Plastic Containers Industry, Inc. is based in Meycauayan City, north of Manila in the Philippines. Founded by Mr. Lito Tan, the family-run corporation is currently managed by Mr. Melvin Dy and Ms. Rosa Dy, with Lawrence Tan and Justin Dy overseeing daily plant operations.

With nearly 1,000 employees, Everest produces around 740 metric tons of plastic products each month. In 2013, the company expanded into printing, establishing a fully integrated in-house print department. This move enabled Everest to provide complete packaging solutions under one roof, from label and product design to printing and final production of injection-molded items.

Everest serves a wide range of industries, including food and industrial manufacturing. The company understands the essential role that packaging and labeling play in brand success, and works closely with clients to deliver high-quality, customized results with creativity and care.

Its air-conditioned print facility features two water-cooled 6-color Speedmaster presses, each equipped with inline coating units and IST UV drying systems. Everest began printing in 2014 with a Speedmaster CX 102 and added a Speedmaster CX 75 in 2023. Mr. Melvin Dy, who led the company’s print division setup, shared that the Speedmaster CX 75 was selected for its fast setup, user-friendly interface, and compact footprint, perfect for both short and long runs. The presses are specially configured to handle ultra-thin substrates used in in-mold label (IML) production. “Having the best equipment is only part of the story,” says Mr. Dy. “People and skills are just as important.”

Everest has built a highly skilled, loyal team, and over the past decade has developed deep application expertise. Today, the company is recognized as a market leader in the specialized field of IML printing. “HEIDELBERG has supported Everest Plastic over the years with consultations and expert visits, helping us build vital know-how,” Mr. Dy adds.

End-to-End HEIDELBERG solutions for faster changeovers

Both of Everest's Speedmaster presses are equipped with Prinect Easy Control inline color measurement and are integrated into the Prinect Production Manager workflow, which also includes a Suprasetter A106 CtP system.

According to Mr. Dy: “With this technology in place, we achieve job changeovers in just 10 minutes per makeready. This has significantly reduced downtime and improved our overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).”

In 2024, Everest focused on improving its postpress capabilities, particularly die-cutting for IML labels. After evaluating several options, the company chose a specially configured MK Masterwork Easymatrix 106 C. “We were shown multiple solutions, but after two detailed demo runs at HEIDELBERG’s showroom, we were confident this was the right machine for us,” explains Mr. Dy.

Looking ahead: Innovation meets expansion

“Whether as converters or printers, our mission remains the same: to help clients create products that stand out and build strong brands,” says Mr. Dy. In the fast-evolving world of IML printing, Everest’s clients are demanding more: sustainable materials, barrier labels for extended shelf life, and new technologies.

Mr. Dy recalls how, in 2013, they had limited print knowledge but were determined to succeed by researching extensively, hiring top talent, and choosing the right partner. “We ultimately selected HEIDELBERG for their knowledge, solutions, and long-term support. The print business is a journey of continuous learning, and having the right partner is critical.”

Mr. Justin Dy, who manages daily print operations, shares: “We’re very optimistic about the future. For the past 10 years, we’ve focused on mastering IML to support our plastic injection business. Now we’re ready to expand into new areas like paper and film printing to meet our clients’ evolving needs.”

With the flexibility of Speedmaster technology and their deep application expertise, Everest is positioned to take on a broader range of packaging and label projects, serving multinational clients and scaling their business to the next level.
