In a recent move, Kochi-based Maya Printers invested in a brand new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102, inline with its three-pronged strategy of enhancing productivity, reducing wastage and improving quality.
“We constantly strive to reach new heights in quality excellence. Heidelberg is the name that we can easily and quickly associate with performance and productivity. The Speedmaster CD 102 is a perfect fit to our requirements”, beams Mr. Prasad, the man who runs the show with his brother Ajay Kumar.
A top-preference among packaging printers in India, the Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 is a chart-buster in the 70 × 100 format series. Referred as the all-rounder, the Speed master CD 102 can handle a range of substrates from 0.03-millimeter paper to 1 mm thick cardboard (0.0012 in - 0.039 in) with a production speed of 15,000 sheets per hour.
“The Speedmaster CD 102 is an excellent Return on Investment, that too in a short period”, says Mr. Prasad. “Energy efficiency of the press is a big plus. It slices energy consumption costs significantly”, he adds.
A family-run enterprise, Maya Printers caters to both the commercial and packaging printing segments. However, about 80% of the business revolves around commercial printing.
The firm runs a tight ship on costs, while keeping productivity high. This helps Maya tide over the challenges of aggressive competition in the industry. “We maintain about 50 plus repeat customers, thanks to quality output, timely delivery and competitive pricing. With a small marketing team, we also export print jobs to other countries. That should give you a fair idea about the close watch we keep on cost control. We help drive value by passing on the savings to customers and in turn they keep coming back to us”, states Mr. Prasad.

Maya houses a full-fledged post-press unit, including a POLAR 92X programmable cutter, and stahlfolding equipment. The prepress division has a Suprasetter A75 CtP with Prinect workflow software from Heidelberg. Mr. Prasad is a thoroughly satisfied customer. “We are more than impressed”, he says, “Speedmaster CD 102’s print format, production speed and alcolor dampening features give us a strong edge over competition. Moreover, the press can be upgraded to include the UV Printing option. More importantly, Heidelberg’s service support is beyond exemplary. We are second-time buyers, and will keep coming back for more.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Prasad envisages new horizons for his printing business in Kerala, in tandem with the upcoming Smart city and India’s largest container terminal. He expects his annual turnover to exceed INR 10 Crores, reflecting a targeted Year-On-Year growth of 15% to 20%
