DE Converter sets new benchmark with Gallus Labelmaster 440 investment

09/22/2025

Kolkata-based DE Converter India has taken a decisive step towards the future of high-performance label and packaging production with the installation of a Gallus Labelmaster 440, further cementing its reputation as one of India’s most forward-thinking converters. The move not only enhances its production muscle but also reflects the company’s philosophy of aligning innovation with long-term profitability.

Established in 1950, DE Converter began as a small family enterprise and has since transformed into a diversified group with a turnover exceeding INR 200 crore. Over its 75-year journey, the company has built a strong presence across laminates, machinery manufacturing, and confectionery packaging, earning a trusted position among India’s most respected flexible packaging solution providers.

The addition of the Gallus Labelmaster 440 strengthens DE Converter’s already robust flexo printing infrastructure. With its advanced eight-colour configuration, dual die-cutting stations, and cold-foiling capability, the press is purpose-built for the company’s versatile product portfolio from tea-tags and FMCG labels to premium short-run packaging with decorative finishes.

Speaking about the investment, Sandip Kundu, Director of DE Converter India, said, “Today’s packaging market demands speed, agility, and efficiency, we needed a super-efficient press that could give us faster changeovers, reduced waste, and greater substrate flexibility. The Gallus Labelmaster enables us to run more efficiently with fewer operators and confidently handle urgent client requirements. It’s an investment in resilience as much as in growth.”

The decision followed extensive trials at the Gallus demo centre in Pune, where DE Converter tested its most challenging substrates, including ultra-thin 12-micron polyester and diverse paper grades. The machine’s performance in handling these materials reinforced management’s confidence in its long-term value.

Thomas Frank, managing director, Heidelberg Asia Pacific, added, “India is at the forefront of global growth in labels and packaging. With the Gallus Labelmaster, converters like DE are not only scaling up their capacity but also ensuring they remain cost-competitive, efficient, and future-ready in an increasingly demanding market.”

With the new installation, DE Converter expects to increase production capacity to 100 tonnes per month in its narrow web flexo division, compared to the earlier 70–80 tonnes. The press has projected to boost profitability by up to 25%, enabling the company to deliver better value to its customers while strengthening its bottom line.

Looking ahead, DE Converter is preparing for its next phase of growth with a greenfield expansion project on a 14-acre site in West Bengal, which will house new extrusion lines, roll-trim facilities, and further state-of-the-art technology.

Indukalpa Saikia, Senior Sales Manager – East, Heidelberg India, concluded, “We are most happy to be associated with a traditional flexo print house like DE Converter, which continues to adopt new technologies while staying true to its legacy. The Gallus Labelmaster 440 will be a cornerstone in their journey of innovation and growth.”
