Transforming IML Printing:

Everest’s Journey with HEIDELBERG Technology

Everest Plastic Containers Industry, Inc. was established in 2005 and is located in Meycauayan City, north of Manila in the Philippines. Founded by Mr. Lito Tan, the company is a family-run corporation currently managed by Mr. Melvin Dy and Ms. Rosa Dy, with Lawrence Tan and Justin Dy overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing plant.

The company employs nearly one thousand people and produces an average of 740 metric tons of plastic products per month. An established plastic container manufacturer, Everest expanded its business in 2013 to include printing. By investing in a fully equipped in-house print production department, the company began offering clients comprehensive packaging solutions under one roof—from label and product design to conceptualization, printing, and final production of injection-molded products.

Everest caters to various market segments, including the industrial and food manufacturing sectors, and understands the critical role packaging and labeling play in a product’s and brand’s success. The company works closely with its clients to understand their unique needs and provides high-quality, customized solutions with creativity and care.

The company’s air-conditioned print facility houses two water-cooled 6-color Speedmaster Offset Presses from HEIDELBERG, both equipped with inline coating units and IST UV drying systems. Everest began its printing operations with a Speedmaster CX 102 in 2014, and in 2023, added a Speedmaster CX 75 to its lineup.

Mr. Melvin Dy, who spearheaded the creation of Everest’s in-house printing facility, explained that the Speedmaster CX 75 was chosen for its fast setup times, user-friendly operation, and compact footprint—making it ideal for both large and small print runs. The presses are specially configured to handle the extremely thin substrates used in in-mold label (IML) production.

“Having the best equipment is only part of the story,” says Mr. Dy. “People and skills are just as important.” Everest has a loyal team of skilled professionals in its print department, and over the last decade, the company has developed deep application know-how. As a result, Everest is now considered a clear market leader in the highly specialized field of IML printing.

Mr. Dy added that “HEIDELBERG has extensively supported Everest Plastic through consultations, including expert visits over the last decade to help transfer valuable knowledge.”

Both Speedmaster presses are equipped with Prinect Easy Control inline color measurement system and are integrated into the company’s Prinect Production Manager workflow. This workflow also includes the Suprasetter A106 CtP plate-making system.

According to Mr. Dy, “With this technology in place, we achieve average job changeover times of just 10 minutes per make-ready. This has significantly reduced non-productive time and improved our overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).”

In 2024, the company’s next equipment upgrade focused on the post-press stage, specifically improving the finishing process (die-cutting) of their IML-printed labels. After considering various options, they selected a specially configured MK Master Works Easymatrix 106 C from HEIDELBERG.

Mr. Melvin Dy explained, “We were presented with several solutions, but it was through two extensive trial demo runs at a special showroom facility that we were convinced this was the right choice for us.”

“Whether as converters or printers, our mission remains unchanged: to help our clients produce the best products that stand out in the market and build strong brands,” Mr. Dy added.

In the field of In-Mold Label (IML) Printing, our clients are consistently seeking the latest trends. These trends range from using fewer materials for sustainability purposes to exploring barrier labels that extend product shelf life. The possibilities are vast and constantly evolving.

Mr. Melvin further shared that when Everest Plastic decided to expand into print production in 2013, they had limited knowledge in the field. It was crucial to conduct extensive research, gather all necessary information, hire the best team, and, most importantly, select a business partner capable of providing the best knowledge, solutions, and support. After evaluating several options, we ultimately chose HEIDELBERG as our partner. The printing business is a continuous learning process, and having a strong business partner is essential to making a significant impact.

Mr. Justin Dy, who oversees the daily operations of the Printing Department, says, “We are very optimistic about the future. For the past 10 years, we have intentionally focused on mastering In-Mold Label (IML) Printing to support our Plastic Injection business. However, as we move forward, we are now ready to expand into new projects, such as paper and film printing, in response to the evolving needs of our clients.

Our HEIDELBERG equipment offers exceptional flexibility, allowing us to handle a variety of packaging and label requirements. We serve several large multinational clients, and with our latest HEIDELBERG technology, we are poised to leverage our application expertise and increased capacity to expand our service offerings and grow our business even further.
