“Our relationship with Heidelberg has been based on partnership right from day one, and means we can get everything we need from one source – machines with maximum productivity, proven and fast service for maximum machine availability, and perfectly matched consumables that enable us to achieve the best printing results”, explains managing director Erik Mauritzon. Swedish printing company Åtta.45 based in Järfälla near Stockholm decided on the biggest investment in the history of the still young company following extensive profitability calculations and with a clear future strategy. Åtta.45 moved into a new building in April 2015, resuming operations with an extensive package consisting of a workflow solution, two new Speedmasters XL 106-8-P, one Speedmaster XL 162-8-P, a Stitchmaster ST 500, service, and consumables with a total value of more than 13 million euros. “We want to continue our growth in the future and therefore needed more space and better logistics as well as the most modern equipment available on the market at that time”, says Erik Mauritzon.

Åtta.45 is one of the biggest printing companies in Sweden with a staff of 115 and sales of over 22 million euros in 2015. Its customer base consists of regional companies in the greater Stockholm area. The product breakdown is one third magazines with short production runs, 40 percent traditional print jobs like flyers and brochures, 10 percent business reports, and the rest digital print jobs. The average production run is around 3,000 sheets per order. Looking at magazines alone, the company prints 400 different titles with four to ten issues per year. Åtta.45 sees its primary growth market in the area of short-run magazines and orders from different customers that are completed in gang runs.

“Bearing this in mind, the machine setup times are very important to us. At the moment, we change jobs around three times every hour”, says production manager Tomas Reinhed. “That’s why we prize the high productivity of the Speedmaster XL machines, all of which are equipped with the simultaneous plate changer Autoplate XL and the inline measurement system Prinect Inpress Control 2 for controlling and monitoring color and register. I’m also impressed by the very high quality of the perfecting presses and their stability of production.” A technical highlight of the Speedmaster XL 162 is the double gripper system in the delivery. It does not require any sheet brakes, resulting in significant paper savings and a stable delivery with neat stacking.
