Speedmaster XL 75-4+L. Up to 40 percent higher productivity with 20 percent less energy consumption – a perfect illustration of an environmentally friendly print shop.

A giant step toward greater sustainability

“Our new Speedmaster XL 75 doesn’t just cut our energy consumption, it also makes us much more productive – with growth of 30 to 40 percent! This enables us to boost our print capacity significantly,” says a suitably impressed Richard Butt, technical director at Alpha Colour. Manager Dave Oldfield adds: “As a certified environmentally friendly print shop, we’re also taking a giant step toward sustainability with this press. We bought the Speedmaster XL 75 carbon neutral already from Heidelberg and the machine is also equipped with a system for measuring current energy consumption.”

Alpha Colour has grown steadily since it started in 1979 as a small offset print shop in Gloucester in the UK. A diverse range of commercial jobs today are printed in a large production hall with good transportation links. These extend from business stationery and greetings cards for publishers to high-quality brochures and annual reports for leading companies. Alpha Colour also offers sales and storage. The print products are coated as standard, as Oldfield explains: “That’s why we’ve equipped the Speedmaster with a coating unit. This enables us to meet today’s needs perfectly and enhance product quality.”

Limiting the number of inking units to four, and using state-of-the-art dryer technology contributes to the sustainable energy savings of the Speedmaster XL 75. “We’re able to print almost all jobs in offset, and this press really does save power, paper, and washup solution,” says Oldfield. “We’re quite simply impressed with the offset quality of the Speedmaster!”
