Hertig+CO. AG produces with automated Stahlfolder KH 82.

The Hertig+Co. AG in Lyss in Switzerland has equipped its postpress department with a fully automated combination folder Heidelberg Stahlfolder KH 82.

The Stahlfolder KH 82-6 KTL features a pallet feeder, six buckle plates, two folding knives and a stream delivery. The first cross-fold is followed by a reversing buckle plate.

A special highlight is the automation level of the machine. A new job can be made ready completely automatically. The operator sets the desired fold type, the sheet size and selects the final product on the touch screen. After that, all components are driven motorically into the correct position: The folding rollers, the front and rear mounted slitter shafts, the buckle plates with spindles and the folding knives.

„Compared to the folding machine we had before, which had to be made ready manually, the Stahlfolder KH 82 ensures a remarkable improvement in productivity,” says head of department Urs Bueschlen. The set-up times are up to 80 percent shorter.

„Even when setting up complex fold types, the machine is ready for production very quickly thanks to a simple and self-explanatory operator guidance,” confirms Urs Bueschlen emphasizing the achieved folding precision: “After the automatic changeover, manual re-adjustments are no longer necessary.”

Three years ago Hertig+Co. AG invested in a sheetfed offset press Speedmaster XL 106-5+L LE UV with multiple dryers to produce even the most demanding print products efficiently and successfully.

The purchase of a fully automated Stahlfolder KH 82 with pallet feeder was the logical next step on the way to the most efficient material and production flow, as the pallets can be driven directly from the delivery of the press into the feeder of the folding machine.
