Increased sales benefit social projects

“The key factors for our decision to buy from Heidelberg were the guaranteed quality, the reliability of the presses and the technical service, and, in overall terms, the fantastic support from Heidelberg and the Heidelberg Ecuador representative,” says General Manager Johnny Guerra. “The biggest benefit of this ultramodern technology is the ability to react quickly to urgent orders thanks to the high levels of productivity in perfecting printing. Other pluses include the exceptional quality that can be achieved and its eco-friendly operation,” says Guerra. The secret to the print shop’s success is its decision to use professional management, to employ the very best experts in the graphics industry, and naturally to modernize its technology and press park. This has enabled the firm to grow sales by 800% over the last 8 years.

Imprenta Don Bosco is based in Quito, Ecuador, and is one of the country’s top five print shops, with annual sales of USD 8 million and a 70-strong workforce. It specializes in extremely high-quality award-winning magazines and books. The company was founded in 1962 by the “ComunidadSalesiana del Ecuador”, a religious order belonging to the Roman Catholic Church that can be traced back to Italian priest John Bosco, known as “Don Bosco” for short. The print shop is still owned by the Salesians to this day. It is one of around 100 institutions belonging to the religious order in Ecuador, which include universities, schools, parishes, publishers, and print shops, etc. All aim to facilitate and support training for young people from socially disadvantaged areas or who lack sufficient financial resources. The exceptional financial results have, most importantly, enabled the Salesians to directly fund their largest social projects in Ecuador.

The eight-color Speedmaster SX 102 press with Prinect Axis Control from Heidelberg combined with the Suprasetter and Prinect workflow is the first of its kind in the whole country, making Imprenta Don Bosco truly unique. Alongside the eight-color press, the print shop also utilizes a Speedmaster SM 102-4, a CD 102-4, and additional Heidelberg products in prepress and postpress. “Up-to-the-minute technology, productivity, the benefits of color measuring systems like Prinect Axis Control, not to mention the human factor, have all had a hand in ensuring Imprenta Don Bosco is at the pinnacle of print shops in Ecuador,” concludes Guerra.
