Doveton Press is undertaking a 3m extension to its pressroom to make way for a Speedmaster XL 75-4+L, a B2 four colour and coater from Heidelberg. It will be delivered in March next year.
In readiness for this increase in capacity, the company has reviewed its business efficiency and as a result is investing in a Tharstern MIS system which will link to Heidelberg’s Pressroom Manager to give fast and accurate data feedback and arm it to make first rate business decisions. The company is viewing the implementation as a six month project.
It is two years since Mark Savage, co-director with his brother Gavin, saw the Speedmaster XL 75 in action at a Heidelberg open house.
“It was clear that this press, running with Inpress Control on the fly colour control, was faster and more productive than the SM 74-4+L we currently run. It would give us increased capacity, speed and output. It has taken us longer than expected to get to order stage but we did look at other options, including a larger extension and a move. In fact we believe that the Tharstern , XL 75 and our recently added Duplo DBMI saddle system give us the expansion we need at this stage with least disruption.”
The new press will give Doveton an estimated 20% increase in B2 print capacity. The company also runs two SM 52 Anicolors, a five- and a four-colour, and two Linoprint 901 digital presses.
Doveton operates around the clock to supply its customer base with print speedily. Based in Bristol, it serves a wide regional base and offers graphic design and comprehensive finishing in addition to its printing services. Its personal and efficient service allows it to provide a wide range of good quality practical and promotional printed products at competitive prices.
It has noticed a significant reduction in run lengths although only recently a 500,000 run was handled. With both litho and digital technology it can meet most print buyer requirements.
