Route One Print buys Speedmaster to bolster its quality, response service

23/10/2014

Route One Print has taken delivery of a Speedmaster XL 75-4+L with Inpress Control and Pressroom Manager. This online trade printer attributes 70% of its output to litho production and it needed a press that could run reliably 24 hours a day, producing high quality results at speed. Coating was critical.

The company offers an online service (including proofing) to digital, instant and copy shop printers and marketing and design freelances and agencies. It produces a wide range of print including flyers, leaflets, business cards and stationery and, increasingly, booklets.

The new press will primarily handle the 5,000 plus run process work. It is an additional machine, an investment justified by increasing sales over the last year.

“We looked at other suppliers but the output quality and post purchase support that Heidelberg provided with existing equipment was a main factor in our decision,” says Adam Carnell, managing director.

“Something that has really impressed us is the flexibility the new press offers with regards to the range of stocks that can be printed on it. Our flyers and leaflets are available from 150gsm to 350gsm while our standard business cards come on 450gsm silk. There are few presses out there that can handle the 450gsm stocks without slowing down the time it takes to set up the press.”

Inpress Control helps speed up set up but is also a valued colour control, automatically making press adjustments on the run. It is an ideal complement to the company’s existing colour management system. Pressroom Manager will further help to automate quality checks. These add ons to the press will enable Route One Print to retain its reputation for quality at the same time as offering a very fast web-to-print service.

Staff have welcomed the investment and are impressed by the ease of use and quality from the press. “The training provided by Heidelberg only helped make the installation and calibration so smooth that we saw no issues at all at changeover, “ says Mr Carnell.

Likewise customers are impressed. Mr Carnell reports: “The Heidelberg brand carries a lot of weight with our customers and is highly respected. At the same time we feel it is important that our customers see that we are a young, exciting and rapidly growing supplier always looking to improve in all areas of the business.”
