Walsh returns to Heidelberg for a Stahlfolder SSP 82.

07/06/2018

Two years ago Walsh Colour Print became the first Irish company to buy a Stahlfolder TH 82-P. That has been so successful that the company has returned to Heidelberg for a Stahlfolder SSP 82, a folder which can score, slit and perforate inline making it ideal for creasing heavy stock prior to folding.

Tony Walsh says: “We are a trade printer and need to provide customers with top quality products. Currently we are scoring on one machine and folding on another machine afterwards but with the introduction of our trade only web to print portal we are working to even tighter timescales. We need to automate this work. We will use the SSP 82 for heavier stocks, mainly over 170gsm and up to 250gsm, to score stocks prior to folding inline which will eliminate the risk of cracking.”

Walsh Colour Print has selected the flat pile feeder model which can handle work up to 820 x 1200mm with a pile height of 800mm. The type of work handled using this slitter shaft station will vary but typical work for this type of machine is displays, flyers and folders.

The new specialist SSP 82 folder will be delivered to the Castleisland, County Kerry, plant this month and will go straight into operation, run by existing folding operators. It will run around the clock.

“We have had very good advice and support from Heidelberg and we are buying this after great success with the TH82-P which has proved to be a no fuss folder which operates in the background doing its job,” says Mr Walsh. “Business slowed after Brexit but it has picked up again and is good at the moment. It is the right time for us to invest again.”
