SAPC boosts its plate production adding a larger format

13/02/2018

St Austell Printing Company is adding a Suprasetter 106 which it will run alongside an existing Suprasetter A75. The company uses over 2,500 plates a month and this CtP device will run Heidelberg-supplied plates to feed an SRA1 LED-UV press.

Kevin Brokenshire, Prepess and Production Manager, says: “We already had a Suprasetter and have been really happy with its production and reliability so wanted another one.”

Managing Director Peter Moody adds: “We did look at other manufacturers but the Suprasetter was always our first choice. As we already have one in the company we know how well it works. Our relationship with Heidelberg spans a long period and we find them approachable and knowledgeable. They understand the economics of our industry which means we can have a sensible and informed conversation.”

The Suprasetter range features laser systems developed by Heidelberg and the modular design means lasers can be added as well as different automated loading devices. An Intelligent Diode System (IDS) ensures that if a diode fails, production continues and without detriment to the quality.

The St Austell Printing Company has a 50-50 split of national and regional work and it says that the improved Cornish transport infrastructure is enabling it to take on more business. The company offers both litho and digital print and a wide range of commercial print including production of playing cards and greeting cards. Its customer base includes businesses and organisations of all sizes.

The family business, which operates a double day shift pattern, has strong Corporate Social Responsibility credentials.

“As a prominent business, we believe it’s our responsibility to educate people on the sustainability and effectiveness of print. We are proud to be long-standing members of Print Power and Two sides, and day-to-day ensure that sustainability is at the heart of everything we do; we work in a purpose-built sustainable factory, we recycle 100% of our waste paper and we responsibly source all our paper stock and use vegetable-based inks. As an established family business, we’re committed to supporting the local community we call home. This includes working closely with local charities and organisations and supporting the economy by employing local people, some of which have been with us for over 25 years.”
