Ultragraph opens up new business with a Versafire CP

16/10/2017

Ultragraph has replaced a HP Indigo 5600 with a Versafire CP from Heidelberg and it says the new press is already winning it business.

The Ormskirk marketing communications and packaging printer had had the Indigo for five years but had started reviewing alternatives for 12 months prior to the lease ending. It came down in favour of the Versafire CP because it was more competitive in terms of running costs and because the quality is more litho-like with much smoother tints and solids. The press was delivered at the start of this month.

“We recognised that with the Prinect DFE (Digital Front End), we could run with one uniform digital workflow. It doesn’t matter what the job is and whether it is printed litho or digital it is handled in exactly the same way throughout the business,” says Nick Jones, managing director.

The company updated its Prinect workflow and upgraded its Signastation and Signapack Pro imposition software so that it can handle both commercial and packaging work with equal ease across all printing areas. It tested boards extensively on the Versafire CP before placing an order because it handles a number of short run packaging jobs.

“With the Indigo the press operator prepared each job and with so many short runs this meant there was extensive downtime. Now jobs are prepared for him and sent to the press. The Versafire is green button technology and that ease of use means it will be much easier to have holiday cover when our skilled operator is on holiday,” says Mr Jones.

Ultragraph has started to publicise the features and benefits of the Versafire to potential customers and without compromising its reputation for top quality can show that it is also an affordable supplier. “We can now compete effectively with local and online digital competitors,” he says.

The company has been a Heidelberg customer for over 20 years and values the Heidelberg build quality, standards of control and workflow plus its service and support.
