Standard Printers has just replaced one of its two 115cm Polar guillotines. A 30 year old model has made way for the latest generation Polar 115 N Plus.
“We debated whether to switch to a bigger guillotine but we have a Kongsberg which can handle the large format POS work so the new Polar will be used to cut work from our litho presses. It will handle 90% standard commercial work but with some medical and pharmaceutical jobs as well,” says Peter Cunningham, managing director.
This marks a major advance in technology and Standard Printers welcomes the move away from keypads to touchscreens and the ability to store and re-use the most commonly used cutting formats. Retaining the same size as a remaining Polar guillotine also makes it easy to swap blades between machines and with the Optiknife on the new model that will be very straightforward. The Polar 115N is ideal for B1 format production.
“We have networked most of our prepress, pressroom and MIS and we will consider linking in some finishing in future so that made it important that a new guillotine was JDF capable. This future-proofs our complete service,” says Mr Cunningham.
Standard Printers in Ballybrit, Galway, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The company has been very successful through organic growth and has also a sister company Western Plastics in Ireland with 3 North American plants which supply foodservice and industrial packing distributors.
