Hartgraph adds digital capacity at its Amersham plant

01/02/2017

Hartgraph Print has returned to Heidelberg for a second digital press, a Versafire CV, which runs alongside an existing Linoprint 751. It has been installed at the company’s 14,000 sq ft freehold site in Amersham.

“We are still very focused on litho and only recently moved to 24 hour operations in the pressroom,” says Steve Walters, Hartgraph partner with Tony Brooks. “However, digital is an important partner operation and this investment is spurred by technology change. We like the larger 700mm tray and the vacuum rather than suction feed mechanism which will make personalising pre-printed sheets much easier. Also the white and clear varnish means we have something more to offer our customers.”

Two years ago the company invested in a Speedmaster XL 75-5+L with Inpress Control to run alongside an SM 52-5. At the same time it upgraded its workflow, taking Prepress Manager and Pressroom Manager.

Hartgraph anticipates taking on another operator in the coming weeks. Business is brisk and Mr Walters comments that the new and impressive building has worked on many levels. It impresses clients, gives the company space to accommodate clients with dedicated customer areas and makes those used to the corporate environment more at home.

“Subliminally I am sure that when visitors come to quality premises they feel more confident about the quality print we have always prided ourselves on giving,” says Mr Walters. Now the company has a better physical layout, meaning optimum efficiency.

It uses Heidelberg plate-setting, printing and finishing kit and workflows and feels secure in returning again to make this investment, confident in the robustness of the kit but also the advice and services support available to them.
