PPS moves to Versafire technology to benefit from Heidelberg workflows

14/10/2016

PPS Print is moving digital supplier in order to simplify its workflow and to output to litho or digital technology through a single RIP.

It has elected to buy the Versafire CP from Heidelberg and it says that the ability to reliably print up to 700mm long sheets and to handle duplex work on stocks up to 400gsm were also persuasive.

The Xerox digital press it currently runs has been in use for five years and so an upgrade was on the cards. Managing director Marcus Brailsford first saw the Versafire CP and DFE RIP at the Heidelberg open house last spring but visited Drupa to compare it with other options on the market. It even took references from users and was impressed by the emphasis they put on the reliability of the model.

“We are always looking at ways to streamline within the business and the major factor in our decision was Heidelberg’s Prinect workflows and the reassurance of working with a single supplier,” says Mr Brailsford.

“We have a Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor and we will be able to output to our litho equipment or our digital with ease and without having to change imposition or run through another RIP. What our customers want is high quality, consistency and reliable delivery and we believe that this is what the Versafire technology will give us.”

The physical workflow was improved earlier this year with the company’s extension at the Peterborough plant. It is here that the equipment will be delivered at the end of the month.

PPS Print likes the accessibility of the machine, allowing easy maintenance or sheet removal in the case of a jam. It also has confidence in Heidelberg’s service support, already established for its prepress and litho line up.

PPS offers a wide range of services including marketing and personalised promotional products as well as print. It handles a comprehensive range of commercial print from greetings cards to magazines and calendars to stationery.
