Dataprint looks to offer digital with a difference

10/05/2016

Dataprint in Alton identifies the fightback by litho as the key reason behind its decision to buy a Linoprint CV, a way to counter that trend with a digital press that can offer something different.

Stuart Reid, sales director, explains: “We have been a ‘Canon house’ for many years. Recently we have seen some digital work moving back over to litho. Makereadies on a five-colour Speedmaster press are so fast now that we’ve found some of our trade work, say for a few thousand A5 leaflets, slipping away. Online companies offering fast turnarounds on litho work are also stealing the once profitable digital business.

“So our choice of digital press was dictated by the need to find something different and with the Linoprint CV we have that. It offers a maximum sheet size of 700 x 330mm giving us the capability to run 6pp A4 portrait or landscape A4 books. There is a clear and white option, too. The white is simply stunning and has been a big hit with our customers. We used this on a GF Smith black board for business cards as well as invitations printed on 300gsm mirror finish board. The press itself is versatile on stocks allowing us to use textured board and heavier weights. We haven’t yet found a stock it won’t run.”

The new press will run everything from 100 business cards to a Wire-O bind document using a total of 250,000 pages upwards. Dataprint has the advantage of having both a retail outlet for direct work and a factory that can handle trade work. It is equipped with commercial and wide format digital equipment. It handles work UK wide but the majority is from within a 50 mile radius.

The company started as a screen and litho business in 1989. Today it is a digital house and employs seven staff and produces business cards, stationery, booklets, complex reports, vehicle graphics, signs, hoards, banners and exhibition stands.

Stuart Reid says he has been impressed by the advice, demonstration and installation work carried out by Heidelberg personnel.
