Heidelberg UK finance director impressed by company’s positive approach

03/02/2016

Simon Gamble has joined Heidelberg UK as finance director, succeeding Roderich Kirschenlohr who has returned to Germany but remains within the Heidelberg Group.

Gerard Heanue, managing director of Heidelberg UK, says: “Roderich has done great work for Heidelberg UK and we are very sorry to lose him. He is a hard act to follow but by bringing someone in from outside Heidelberg and outside printing we will benefit from a fresh approach. It will enable us to capitalise on some of Simon’s wide experience in other related sectors.”

With a degree in Management Science from Warwick University and as a qualified Chartered Accountant with work experience at KPMG and subsequently in industry, Simon brings a wealth of experience to the post.

Most of his work experience has been in the telecoms sector, including stints with Cable & Wireless, Level 3 Communications and BT. The closest he has come to the printing industry is with news agency Reuters and ad agency BBDO but he is keen to apply his financial planning, management and leadership skills to the equipment sector. He relishes the prospect of working with printers and helping them make wise and growth-focused equipment, workflow, consumables and service investments.

“Heidelberg UK has not been immune to tough times but it has come through in good shape and the attribute that strikes you coming in to the business is how positive the Heidelberg staff are, how strong their ‘can do’ approach is and the energy with which they tackle their work,” says Mr Gamble. “The average length of service here is incredible, something many companies must envy.”

Joining Heidelberg this close to Drupa (31 May to 10 June) is a test. He is watching carefully to see if there is any significant lull in trade before the Dusseldorf show although the year has started brightly. There have been a number of equipment sales, despite the economic back drop of concerns over UK growth and the China downturn.

Simon is married to Rachel and they have three children: William is studying Accountancy and Finance at Exeter University and Matthew (16) and Lucy (13) are at West London schools. Family is a priority but Simon also counts football (he is a Chelsea season ticket holder), swimming and his two dogs, puppy Tango and senior dog Pepsi, as key interests. He is also very well travelled.
