Pinnacle Litho installs Speedmaster XL 75-4+L for Peak Productivity

02/20/2017

Mississauga, Ontario – Chris Fillingham, owner of Pinnacle Litho, is no longer frustrated by having RFQs (request for quotes) leave the Greater Niagara region for greener pastures. “There is a lot of print here in the region, but in many cases, I simply wasn’t competitive enough with my current equipment to win those jobs,” said Fillingham. “For months, I tested how many of those jobs I could win if I could reduce makeready time and improve turnaround time. Soon, a new business plan came together.”

The goal was clear: the company needed a high speed 4-colour press with a focus on job-change technology. “While speed is nice, we are in a short run market. Makeready is where it is at,” said Fillingham.

Enter the Speedmaster XL 75-4+L press. This press is automated to the highest level possible to ensure makeready times dropped drastically. Complete with AutoPlate Pro (fully automated plate-changing), Inpress Control (inline colour and registration without interruption), Intellistart (operating system capable of job change without interruption) and an anilox coating system for instantly cured sheets, this press can output a new job of 1,000 sheets in a third of the time of his previous press.

Fillingham worked in print shops in the Hamilton region before deciding to open his own shop in 1996. What began as a prepress house (featuring scanning and proofing), later evolved into a full services print shop. In 2002, Pinnacle upgraded to a PM 74-4 press to enter the mid-size market, and build the business steadily over the years. “Our first printing machine was a QMDI,” said Fillingham.

“From there, we added folding, cutting and complete workflow.”

With a lean and aggressive workforce, Fillingham is the driving force behind Pinnacle sales: “filling a void in the region and focusing on the trade element of the market. Customers with smaller projects often need support and want input. The larger job providers are difficult to talk with directly, and that is where we come in.”

“I am expecting to be able to double my sales this year,” said Fillingham. “Based on work I have had to turn away. That is the goal!”

“The automation we have now is what the industry demands,” he said. “You can’t compete without it. This Speedmaster XL 75 is amazing, but I chose Heidelberg because Heidelberg is print! Whether the issue is the press, consumables, special applications, service, follow up or understanding, the relationships built are key. The people behind the products are what make the difference. That is worth volumes to me.”

And Pinnacle’s new service platform should be worth volumes to their customers.
