Bright and beautiful versatility
When you can print whatever customers want, sometimes you get some unusual requests! With the Versafire digital printing system, PRINT ZELL can now deliver one-of-a-kind printing results even faster.
Thomas Ludwig, Managing Director of the PRINT ZELL print shop and Ludwig:media GmbH (Thomas Ludwig runs the company together with his brother, Jörg C. Ludwig) in Zell am See still remembers the company’s first time using the Versafire. “It was a trade fair brochure for a plastics processing company, featuring surfaces with partially different coatings. In the past we would have used print production for this. The Versafire made it all very simple.”
Almost everything is possible
PRINT ZELL in Zell am See started using the Versafire only recently. Most of the regional print shop’s customers are tourism companies that want to grab guests’ attention to gain a competitive advantage. In order to make this happen, PRINT ZELL also has to reach for some out-of-the-ordinary solutions. For example for the company that wanted to have its menus printed on old slates. The Versafire also managed the four-color wood frame that really set off the vintage style.
Versatility in digital printing
Thomas Ludwig and Jörg C. Ludwig together with their employees saw the digital press in use in the Heidelberg demo center at the Austrian Federal Education and Research Institute for Graphics. After that it was on to drupa 2016, and then the decision in favor of the Versafire was made. Jörg C. Ludwig on the selling points: “Apart from the four-color press, USPs like a fifth printing unit for spot colors and coatings (including partial) were vital for us. Since we print exclusively in A4 format in the offset field, we definitely wanted our digital press to be able to produce six- and eight-pagers. This meant we needed the 33 x 70 cm print format with optimal register accuracy and banners up to 33 x 126 cm as well. The Versafire delivered the best quality when it came to reproducing the sometimes difficult motifs of the more challenging packagings we produce digitally, especially in relation to image reproduction and reproducibility, and it provides the best printing results in terms of the printability of coarsely structured surfaces.”
And today? The Versafire has equaled the annual print volume of its predecessor at PRINT Zell in just two months. What more could you want?
Ludwig:media GmbH, a prepress service provider, purchased the last remaining print shop based in Zell am See in 2011. This resulted in a pooling of knowledge between prepress and the print shop as well as technology and marketing, with many benefits for the customers. As well as graphic design, they now also have a one-stop shop for prepress and press services. This interconnection means that there are very few things that PRINT ZELL cannot do. The headquarters of Ludwig:Media and PRINT ZELL is located in Schillerstraße in Zell am See, where there are 20 people working across the two companies.
