History
The origins of Heidelberg USA, Inc. can be traced back to 1936 when
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, AG was represented by an independent
dealership known as Printing Machinery Corporation that sold the
early "Windmill" platen press. In the mid to late
1940's, distributorships were established on both the East and
West Coasts.
During the 1950's, additional offices of these
dealerships opened in the Central, Inter-Mountain and Southern
United States. As the dealerships grew, they consolidated; and in
1958 the Eastern, Central and Southern organizations were combined,
forming Heidelberg Eastern, Inc., which was headquartered in New
York.
On the West Coast, the combination of regional dealerships
was accomplished in 1978 when Heidelberg West, Inc. was
established. This independent dealer, with corporate offices in San
Francisco, was subsequently purchased by Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen, AG and in 1981 became a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Heidelberg Eastern continued as an independent dealer until
January 1, 1993 when the factory purchased certain assets of the
company and formed a new enterprise known as Heidelberg USA, Inc.
(HUS) The Heidelberg West corporate entity was subsequently merged
into HUS on April 1, 1993. The headquarters for the combined
organizations was relocated to Kennesaw, Georgia, in September,
1994.
In April 1997, approximately 280 U.S. based employees of
Linotype-Hell Company were absorbed into Heidelberg USA. This
addition resulted from the purchase of their German parent company
by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, AG. The acquisition provided
Heidelberg with a new presence in the Pre-Press segment of the
Graphic Arts business which complements the pressroom and
bindery/finishing equipment product lines.
Today Heidelberg USA employs over 500 people working out of
facilities across the nation. We provide to the U.S. printing
industry the finest and most technologically advanced pre-press,
printing and bindery/finishing equipment in the world. Heidelberg
has also expanded to include die cutters and folder-gluers, as well
as consumables, business consulting and training services. The
Company maintains an extensive customer support staff in both the
Parts and Service organizations.
We are staffed with highly trained, experienced sales,
marketing and administrative personnel who work hand-in-hand with
the field service team. Technical support personnel in the
