drupa 2012 – New Digital Machine Control System for the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and Stahlfolder Ti 36 from Heidelberg for Even More Flexible Folding

12/09/2011

  • Extremely user-friendly operation and short makeready times result in excellent cost-effectiveness
  • Wide range of possible fold types
  • Top folding quality ensures first-class end products
At drupa 2012, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be presenting the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and the Stahlfolder Ti 36 with the new CCT machine control system (CCT = Compact Control Technology). This system will make both buckle plate folding machines far more user-friendly and significantly reduce makeready times for each job. Small and medium-sized print shops in particular are increasingly having to cope with a larger number of different variants combined with shrinking runs. This is exactly where the Stahlfolder Ti series with its new control system offers key benefits in terms of efficiency and cost-effectiveness while also ensuring excellent flexibility.

With up to three folding units, a maximum of fourteen buckle plates at the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and even sixteen buckle plates at the Stahlfolder Ti 36, they cover a wide range of fold types, including complex fold-gluing and gatefolds. The high fold quality of the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and Stahlfolder Ti 36 gives users of small-format print products another way to stand out from the competition. High-quality products and services require perfectly processed brochures, flyers, and packaging inserts. It is precisely here that the Stahlfolder Ti series impresses with its Extra Grip folding rollers for excellent folding accuracy and mark-free sheet transport. This boosts the profitability of postpress operations, even with short runs. The Stahlfolder Ti 52 will be on display in the HEI Flexibility section of the Heidelberg stand.

Thanks to the new CCT machine control system, the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and Stahlfolder Ti36 are operated from a console located on the feeder that has a clear layout and an ergonomic design for easy access. A graphic user interface guides operators step by step through the setup process and an electronic self-learning mode offers additional support. Various monitoring functions, including a sheet travel monitor to check that all sheets comply with the specified length, ensure end-to-end quality control and greater reliability in production.

Stahlfolder Ti 36 - ideal for the smallest fold applications

The Stahlfolder Ti 36 specializes in the very short fold lengths with numerous parallel and cross-folds that are typical of items such as user instructions, advertising materials, and packaging inserts used in the pharmaceutical sector and other applications. It enables flexible processing of sheet formats up to A3+ and therefore supports flat formats ranging from 8 x 10 centimeters (3.15 x 3.94 inches) to a maximum of 36 x 56 centimeters (14.17 x 22.05 inches).

Stahlfolder Ti 52 - a flexible all-rounder for formats up to 50 x 70 centimeters (19.69 x 27.56 inches)
The Stahlfolder Ti 52 responds to the current requirements of medium-format customers, such as quick and easy processing of traditional advertising brochures, flyers, and signatures with eight A4 or A5 pages. It can fold flat formats ranging from 10 x 15 centimeters (3.94 x 5.91 inches) to 52 x 84 centimeters (20.47 x 33.07 inches).

Combination options for additional applications

A whole host of configuration options enable both folding machines to be adapted specifically to individual jobs. Their modular design maximizes flexibility. An optional knife folding unit can be installed as the second or third folding unit. A round continuous feeder, also optional, delivers even greater productivity by ensuring a continuous material flow.

When used together, the Stahlfolder Ti 52 and Stahlfolder Ti 36 set new standards. Intelligent combination of the Stahlfolder Ti 52 with the second folding unit of the Stahlfolder Ti 36 harnesses special synergies. For example, packaging inserts can be printed on larger print sheets and still be folded to the smallest of final formats. This machine combination utilizes the strengths of both medium and small formats to further extend the range of possible applications.
