Gráficas Lersi, a packaging specialist based in Torrent near Valencia, Spain, recently completed a major technological upgrade as part of a broader strategic transformation. The company, which serves high-demand sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, set an ambitious growth target: to reach between 20 and 25 million euros in annual revenue within four years.
To do that, it needed more than just incremental upgrades. Lersi required a system capable of delivering high-volume output without compromising on flexibility, quality, or its environmental goals. This led to a strategic investment in cutting-edge technology from HEIDELBERG and MK Masterwork, two industry partners that are now playing a key role in Lersi’s new production model.
“We don’t just want to participate in the market: we want to be among the winners. That’s why it’s important for us to work with a winning team,” says César Romero, CEO of Gráficas Lersi.
At the heart of the new setup is the Speedmaster CX 104 from HEIDELBERG, an eleven-color offset press designed for high-end, high-volume packaging production. The press combines intelligent automation with robust performance. With features such as Autoplate Pro for fully automatic plate changes and Prinect Inpress Control for inline color and register control, Gráficas Lersi has been able to dramatically reduce setup times and eliminate unnecessary waste.
On the finishing side, the company turned to Masterwork MK, installing the Diana Easy 115 folder-gluer. Capable of producing straight-line, 4- and 6-corner, and crash-lock bottom cartons, the Diana was outfitted with the MK Feeder and the Diana SmartPacker, a complete solution that automates feeding, gluing, and packing. The setup is designed to handle the increasingly complex requirements of Gráficas Lersi’s core markets while minimizing manual intervention.
The impact was immediate. Within months of commissioning the new equipment, Gráficas Lersi reported a 60% increase in production capacity, enabled by the seamless coordination between printing and postpress. According to Romero, this balance was crucial to their decision:
“It’s not just about print quality or finishing speed, it’s about the whole flow. HEIDELBERG and MK help us stay agile, from makeready to delivery.”
The systems also align with the company’s environmental goals. Reductions in makeready waste, energy-efficient design, and support for eco-certified substrates (such as FSC and PEFC) allow Gráficas Lersi to maintain its commitment to responsible production without compromising on performance.
Gráficas Lersi is not simply looking to scale for the sake of scale. The vision is more targeted: to grow while strengthening the company’s identity as a quality-driven and environmentally responsible packaging partner. This means balancing investments in automation with human expertise, and focusing on end-to-end process efficiency.
“The market is consolidating, and that puts pressure on margins. To stay competitive, we need to improve our productivity, invest in OEE, and make sure we have the right technology to win new customers and grow in volume,” says Romero. “But none of that matters if we lose what makes us different: our people and our commitment to doing things right.”
The company’s focus on quality and innovation is reinforced by its pursuit of certifications such as ISO 9001, FSC, PEFC, and upcoming IFS and BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards. Meanwhile, its compact, highly automated structure allows it to be both efficient and responsive to changing market needs.
“Every project, every customer matters to us. That’s why we’ve built this setup, to offer packaging that’s not just effective, but also aligned with what our clients and their audiences really need,” Romero adds.
