Founded in 1991 as “Bomon Printing” in a narrow alley in Euljiro, Bomon Special Color Co., Ltd. (CEO Ko Gwang-ok) provides professional, high-end packaging printing solutions through a one-stop system - covering everything from design planning to printing and delivery - based on continuous investment and research.
Furthermore, drawing on over 30 years of expertise in package printing, the company identifies rapidly changing customer needs and has established professional package design services alongside state-of-the-art equipment that ensures high quality and productivity. Currently, Bomun Special Color produces packaging for a wide range of industries - including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, health functional foods, and food products - solidifying its position as a leading package printing company in Korea.
In November 2022, Bomun Special Color expanded its third factory in Namyangju, completed construction of its new headquarters, and relocated there. Anyone visiting can see just how much meticulous effort CEO Ko Gwang-ok put into providing a much better working environment, including rest areas and a dining hall. Furthermore, Bomun Special Color’s new headquarters has successfully installed and is operating the latest Speedmaster CX 104 printing press - the first in Asia to feature a 10-color coating unit and an inline IST-UV drying system. Ko Kwang-ok, CEO of Bomun Special Color, stated, “Thanks to the introduction of this new equipment, we can now print complex and diverse spot-color products - which previously required two or more printing passes - in a single pass. Furthermore, the excellent drying performance allows us to perfectly produce prints with 10 or more colors in a single run. “In the past, we faced significant challenges in increasing productivity, but now we are able to print reliably at high productivity levels and quickly deliver high-quality products to our customers, which is very satisfying,” he added. In addition, to match the press’s high productivity, the company also introduced a Suprasetter 106 CtP system capable of producing 55 plates per hour.
Bomun Special Color began with the Speedmaster CD 74-6+L, followed by the CD 102-6+L, CX 102-6+L, and most recently the CX 104-10+L - a total of four Heidelberg presses - along with two Heidelberg CtP units and various packaging post-processing lines, including a Thompson machine and an adhesive line. The company is fully equipped to produce a wide range of packaging products, including high-quality single-wall boxes, box sets, and cover boards. At the same time, we operate a design research institute equipped with the capability to not only provide consulting services to clients but also independently carry out design projects. This is the result of Bomun Special Color’s continuous investment toward the company’s long-term goal of providing one-stop service for package production. Furthermore, while color management is a challenging issue for packaging printing companies in all aspects - including quality and productivity - Bomun has steadily digitized and standardized spot colors over the years, achieving remarkable results in quality, cost-effectiveness, and productivity. This is the result of special efforts to communicate with employees on the production floor and implement the company’s manuals in practice.
Bomon Special Color is preparing for the future by adding production automation systems to its production infrastructure - already fully equipped with proprietary technology - to produce diverse and innovative packaging that stands out in the ever-changing packaging market. CEO Ko Gwang-ok states, “Moving forward, we will leverage this new equipment to keep pace with the trend toward high-variety, small-batch production. For example, by utilizing the know-how we’ve accumulated over many years as a specialized packaging design company, we are currently collaborating with numerous startups and effectively fulfilling their small-volume orders. These activities will be further strengthened, and we aim to expand our business as a specialized packaging design company.”
Bomon Special Color believes that packaging is not merely a paper-based wrapping material, but rather a means of pioneering a new culture of communication through “package printing” from a long-term perspective. With this conviction, the company will continue to strive and grow every day toward its goal of becoming a leading K-Package printing company recognized both domestically and, in the future, internationally for its differentiated technology and quality.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) launched the Speedmaster CX 104 worldwide in mid-2021. With the new Speedmaster CX 104, Heidelberg aimed to further strengthen its strong position in the growing packaging printing sector.
The Speedmaster CX 104 boasts excellent accessibility and a new, ergonomic design, offering a variety of assistance systems alongside a completely new operating method (Heidelberg UX). The patented Intellistart 3 system, installed in the Prinect Press Center XL 3 control station, automatically initiates and executes the job setup process to ensure consistently short setup times. In addition, the Intelliline color LED display on the printing and coating units informs the operator of the press’s operating status at all times and indicates when manual intervention is required, allowing the operator to easily monitor the press’s condition. Furthermore, various AI-based support systems, such as the Wash Assistant and Color Assistant Pro, help users operate the press easily, intuitively, reliably, and accurately, while minimizing setup time, reducing waste, and lowering energy consumption to enhance press performance.
One of the highlights of the Speedmaster CX 104 is its new coating unit. Thanks to the rearrangement of key components, accessibility is excellent. In particular, the weight of the anilox roller has been reduced by 30%, making job changeovers more ergonomic and significantly faster. A combination clamping system compatible with both coating blankets and coating plates expands the range of possible applications, while a new, compact bearing unit and a new chamber blade concept ensure uniform coating application even at top speeds. The Speedmaster CX 104 is the first press from Heidelberg to use the new “Pulse Laser Process” (PLP) screen rollers as standard, which create a uniform coating surface and deliver a consistently high gloss.
