Cavelti AG, based in Gossau, Switzerland, has modernized its postpress operations and enhanced its folding capabilities with a new Stahlfolder KH 78 from HEIDELBERG. The combination folding machine features six buckle plates, a cross-fold unit, and an SPH70 stream delivery. It also carries the “CO2-compensated” certification.
A key highlight of the machine is the new Perfect-Grip folding rollers installed on the Stahlfolder KH 78. Developed by HEIDELBERG, the rollers are made from a newly engineered plastic that combines the properties of both soft-PU and hard-PU into a single material. Perfect-Grip technology enables the precise and sharp folding of both heavy and lightweight papers, coated and uncoated stocks alike, with equal reliability. This is confirmed by Marcel Junker, Head of Printing/Postpress, and Guido Kaiser, Department Head of Printing/Postpress. “The stable performance of the folder is especially noticeable when running very thin paper stocks at high speeds,” they note.
Another major advantage is the rollers’ high durability. According to technical data, the wear on Perfect-Grip rollers is only about one-fifth that of traditional hard-PU rollers. Compared to soft-PU rollers, wear is reduced by approximately 50%. In addition, HEIDELBERG states that the Perfect-Grip rollers are highly ink-repellent and require significantly less cleaning.
At Cavelti AG, the Stahlfolder KH 78 complements an existing Stahlfolder KH 66 combination folding machine. While the new folder is primarily used for standard folding types, such as 8-, 16-, and 32-page signatures, the fully automated Stahlfolder KH 66 is dedicated to handling special formats.
