Climate neutral by 2030: Heidelbergs climate strategy for production and distribution sites

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is redoubling its activities in sustainability management. Against the backdrop of the global challenges caused by climate change Heidelberg has made an ambitious target as part of its sustainability strategy: we commit to become climate neutral by 2030 at our production and distribution sites globally.

“For many years, we have been actively working to gradually minimize harmful emissions and reduce the health and environmental impact of our sites. We have now made a further commitment to ensuring our worldwide production and distribution sites are operating on a climate-neutral basis by 2030, which is earlier than required by legislation.”

Rainer Hundsdörfer, CEO, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG

Our steps to carbon neutrality

To achieve our target we defined the following steps:

  • Increase of energy efficiency at all production and distribution sites,
  • supply of our locations with renewable energies from our own plants,
  • purchase of certified green energy,
  • compensation of unavoidable emissions by emission certificates.

It is important to us to continuously optimize our locations and thus to make a contribution to climate protection. After 2030, we will continue working on reducing the share of emissions certificates. By 2040 at the latest, Heidelberg intends to achieve full climate neutrality at its sites without offsetting by certificates.
