Since 2005, Heidelberg Graphic Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (HGES) has been part of the HEIDELBERG global manufacturing network. From its site in Qingpu, Shanghai, HGES produces two of the most versatile offset presses from HEIDELBERG: the Speedmaster SX 102 and the Speedmaster CX 104. These presses are built for printers across Asia and beyond, combining German engineering with local expertise.
This summer, the HGES team used the Speedmaster SX 102 to support a special community initiative. At the request of the German School in Shanghai, HGES produced the school’s annual yearbooks for both its Hongqiao and Yangpu campuses. The job included two different editions: 1,000 copies for the Hongqiao campus, requiring 19 signatures (152 plates), and 400 copies for the Yangpu campus, requiring 11 signatures (88 plates). In total, the team processed 30 sets and 240 plates — all within a single shift.
Thanks to the press’s highly automated Push-to-Stop technology and seamless integration with the Prinect workflow, the entire job was completed in less than eight hours. Students at both the Hongqiao and Yangpu campuses received their yearbooks on time for the start of the school year.
At the handover, Michael Nilges, Managing Director of HGES, presented the freshly printed yearbooks to the school principal, who praised both the quality and the speed of production.
For the HGES team, the project was about more than just a printing job. Known for its flexibility and great efficiency, the Speedmaster SX 102 proved once again why it is a trusted solution for commercial printers worldwide. But the bigger picture was about giving something back.
In China, corporate social engagement is an essential part of building trust and long-term relationships. Supporting local schools and cultural projects reflects not only social responsibility but also respect for the communities where we live and work. For HGES, initiatives like the school yearbook project are an opportunity to contribute to education and to strengthen cultural ties with the local community.
