The grand reopening of the redesigned Print Media Center was at the heart of our anniversary celebrations the week of June 2, 2025. In this excerpt from his speech, Nick Trabold, Head of the Print Media Center and Service Operations, explains what makes this place so special today.

A look behind the scenes of the world's largest showroom for printing technology – and a clear commitment to application expertise.

"HEIDELBERG’s 175-year journey is built on a clear foundation: craftsmanship, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to our customers. Today, that journey continues with the launch of the Home of Print—a new kind of space, designed not just to demonstrate technology, but to deliver inspiration, solutions, and true application know-how.

Our industry has always been about more than machines. At its core, printing is a platform for communication, creativity, and business value. That’s why we’ve reimagined our demonstration center as something much more: a global knowledge hub for the future of print."

A Global network rooted in local expertise

"HEIDELBERG maintains an international footprint of Print Media Centers—each tailored to local markets, but all connected by a shared goal: to deliver expertise where it matters most.

From our center in Atlanta to our narrow-web facility in St. Gallen, and from our Shanghai demo hall to our showrooms in Tokyo and Jakarta, HEIDELBERG is present where our customers are. This proximity ensures that whether the conversation is about packaging, labels, or commercial printing, we have the insights and capabilities to support our partners globally."

The purpose behind the Home of Print

"Our new Home of Print in Wiesloch-Walldorf is the largest showroom in the industry, but it’s more than a space to exhibit equipment. It represents our core belief that print is vibrant, valuable, and full of opportunity.

When visitors walk through our doors, they don’t start with the machines. They begin with the applications—the finished products that drive real business: packaging, labels, promotional pieces. This shift reflects our commitment to understanding our customers’ end markets and helping them differentiate through print.

Every part of the 9,000 square meter facility is designed around this idea. We show not just individual machines but full end-to-end workflows, from PDF to final output. Across every printing technology—offset, digital, flexo—and every step of the process, from prepress to postpress, we offer a fully integrated solution."

Knowledge in action

"Behind the technology are more than 120 experts—engineers, application specialists, service professionals—all working together. These aren’t just demo staff. Many of them are also on the road, supporting installations and customer projects worldwide.

Annually, we conduct around 1,000 live demonstrations and welcome more than 3,000 visitors. These include customers, industry professionals, and students from schools and universities. The Home of Print is also an education platform—designed to inspire future talent and build awareness of the opportunities in modern print."

Application excellence as a differentiator

"Our goal at HEIDELBERG is not just to show machines, but to help customers get the best possible performance out of them. That’s why our center focuses heavily on application testing—evaluating consumables like inks, coatings, and chemicals to optimize outcomes. This is what turns a machine demonstration into an application excellence experience.

All of this is embedded into the Prinect workflow. Whether it’s a new innovation like the Jetfire 50 or the launch of our new Cartonmaster CX 145, we ensure full integration into the workflow to maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and drive business value."

The foundation: A global support system

"Of course, no system is complete without reliable service. We know machines can face downtime. What makes the difference is our ability to respond quickly and locally. Our global service network—backed by experienced professionals in every region—is what ensures our customers’ long-term success.

The Home of Print isn’t just a destination—it’s a commitment. A commitment to delivering solutions that work in the real world. A commitment to advancing the print industry as a whole. And above all, a commitment to our customers and partners as we shape the next 175 years of HEIDELBERG together."
