Prestige Print doubled its print output when it took delivery of a Printmaster PM 52-5-P. The press replaced an entry level SM 52-2-E to give the Company, a one time print broker which switched to manufacturing four years ago, its first full colour model.
"It could potentially double our turnover to one million pounds," says Managing Director Paul Massam. "You are not only putting work through once rather than twice to finish a job but you are increasing your control and cutting out wash ups and additional loading and shifting of work. We'd only had the two-colour Speedmaster for 15 months but it has gone so well it has transformed our opportunities and now with a five-colour perfector we can build on that and improve our position in the four-colour field. Mostly we use the fifth unit for seals because we have a lot of fast turnround demand but it allows us to handle specials as well. We believe the Printmaster gives us everything the entry level Speedmaster provided and more," says Mr Massam.
The Printmaster PM 52 is a Speedmaster in its build and quality but the level of automation is dictated by the buyer and there is a small speed compromise. Prestige Print has specified automatic blanket wash up and semi-automatic plate loading.
The Birmingham company produces a wide variety of general commercial work but has a niche in transport, producing a high volume of timetables and booklets. Its finishing includes cut-fold-stitch but it also has a dedicated booklet maker.
