Sorg Printing, D'Iberville, Mississippi - Processing speed improved by 300 percent
When John and Greg Sorg opened Sorg Printing in 1990, they had only one small press. But business grew fast and the customers increasingly asked for high-end process work so today Sorg Printing runs five presses and employs 12 people.
Soon after opening their shop, the Sorg brothers realized that they needed four-color capacity and in 1999 decided to purchase a Heidelberg Printmaster GTO 52-4. John had seen the GTO 52 at trade shows and colleagues had recommended it as a good, reliable press. The fact that the price was also better than for comparable brands was, of course, another argument in favor of this particular Heidelberg model.
When Sorg Printing invested in the Printmaster GTO 52-4 with perfector, they intended not only to expand their process color capacity, but also to improve print quality and production versatility - their expectations have been fully met. "Turnaround times have been cut enormously and processing speed has improved by 300 percent," John says.
This lead to a boost in productivity and John is particularly pleased with the resulting increase in profits which he largely ascribes to the perfecting work the press does. "The Heidelberg GTO has brought in a lot of high end customers. We can now do work we wouldn't have done before also with regards to ink coverage and sheet size." So Sorg Printing's job structure has also changed to more versatility and quality since they own their Heidelberg Printmaster GTO 52.
The 12 employees process around 15 jobs a day, 70 percent of which are short to medium runs of 500 - 5,000 sheets. 30 percent of business is generated by three big customers.
Although John has not had to call on the Heidelberg service technicians yet, he knows he can rely on the Heidelberg after sales service and their sales representative to help out whenever necessary. All in all, John has been very satisfied with his Heidelberg equipment from the start - and the fact that he bought another press, a two-color GTO 52, in 2002 just goes to prove it.
