When advertising agency Green Rich & Associates decided to take up printing as an additional service in 1961, they probably did not expect this printing business to require four full-time staff and to produce an annual turnover of 22.5 million sheets some 40 years later.
Green Rich & Associates mainly prints four-color incentive and promotional material, such as direct mailings, for their customers. 70 percent of the jobs are short runs between 500 and 2,000 copies. For some time, the company used only two-color presses resulting in a considerable amount of staff overtime. Mike Delaney, print shop foreman in charge of prepress, printing, shipping and receiving at Green Rich & Associates, explains that the company soon realized that they needed four-color printing capabilities in order to cut down on costs and increase productivity. Mike Delaney attended trade shows and did extensive research before finally deciding to invest in a four-color Printmaster GTO 52 from Heidelberg. Given that the company had to cope with significant downtimes and service calls with their two-color machines, the renowned press reliability and excellent Heidelberg Service featured prominently in the printer's investment decision. As Green Rich & Associates handles many time-sensitive jobs where customers place the order in the morning and need the finished product in the afternoon, fast job turnaround was another essential requirement for the new press.
Green Rich & Associates installed their first Heidelberg press in August 2001. Productivity and profits subsequently went up as expected and the company managed to cut down on overtime. So far, Mike Delaney has hardly ever had to make use of the Heidelberg after sales service as he received very good press training and the machine has been running smoothly ever since it has been installed.
