Soulié Print Shop, Frontignan, France: "We would go for a Printmaster again any time"
The Soulié print shop was founded in 1985 by the brothers Philippe and Jean-Marc Soulié. At first, the press room installation consisted of a MO-1, a GTO-1, a Heidelberg Tiegel, a POLAR cutter as well as phototypesetting and manual assembly. From the start, they focused on four-color printing. After moving to a larger facility in 1991, the press room equipment was modernized with the investment in a Printmaster PM 52-4 and a Printmaster PM 74-4 in 2005. The two new presses replaced four existing ones.
"The two format sizes ideally fit our print shop’s job structure. The fact that both presses have the same operating concept allows the printers to switch from one machine to the other. Moreover, the flexibility regarding automation ensures that the presses could be tailored to our specific needs", explains Jean-Marc Soulié, responsible for Sales, Administration and Business Planning, regarding the investment decision.
Today, in addition to the two managing directors, the company has 16 employees - four each for prepress, press, postpress and mailing as well as four administrative and sales staff. The print shop's core business is full service from layout design to prepress, press, finishing and dispatching for all sorts of printed matter, such as brochures, business stationery (i.e. business cards) and posters. Innovative finishing techniques have become the print shop's USP in the region.
The customer base is made up of industrial as well as public bodies and includes some large customers and many smaller ones. The print shop must cater for all their individual demands such as the sometimes very high quality standards and diverging delivery time expectations. "Given our specific customer structure, the new presses have an extraordinarily positive impact on productivity and throughput times", says Philippe Soulié, responsible for Technology and Dispatch, emphasizing the advantages of the Printmaster. "Furthermore, the Printmaster conveys Heidelberg's positive corporate image".
The Soulié brothers first became aware of the presses at a presentation by the Heidelberg France sales representative Laurent Ambinat. The final purchase decision, however, was made at an Open House. "Price, performance and flexibility of the presses convinced us", says Philippe Soulié. "Likewise, its key product features are its absolute reliability and production stability - the printer can well and truly rely on the presses."
Heidelberg was so convinced of the Soulié print shop's professional working methods that it offered the customer the opportunity to field-test a product innovation on the Printmaster PM 52. The new feature in question was the motorized control of the diagonal register on the plate-clamping system EasyPlate. The system was tried and tested at Soulié’s in daily operation over a period of several months and finally approved. The print shop Soulié was therefore the final touchstone before the system became the new, worldwide standard feature of the Printmaster PM 52.
With their investment in the Printmaster PM 52 and the Printmaster PM 74, the Soulié print shop has set the course for a sound future. By concentrating on their core business, they do not want to expand but rather to become more profitable. "With the Printmaster from Heidelberg, we have a new partner that earns us money".
