Digital Network for the Graphic Arts Industry: Heidelberg and WAM!NET Sign Global Contract

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) and WAM!NET Inc. announced a global agreement for cooperation in the area of digital data communication. The respective cooperation contract was signed by Holger Reichardt, Member of the Board of Heidelberg, and Edward J. Driscoll, Chief Executive Officer of WAM!NET Inc.

Main focus of the joint activities is the development and marketing of solutions targeted and tailored to the needs of user in the graphic arts industry. While WAM!NET provides the ideal infrastructure for digital communication to the customer, Heidelberg supplies color management and soft-proofing solutions.

This cooperation will further offer to its customers in the printing and publishing industries news venues in the adoption and utilization of digital workflow. The relationship is viewed as a first stage of a cooperation which will continue to evolve supporting the industries', and specifically Heidelberg's customers, needs in e-business, e-printing and publishing.

On a regional basis, Heidelberg's sales team will offer integrated solutions of data delivery and network management with Heidelberg presses. Over the next 12 months, WAM!NET will integrate Heidelberg's color management tools with a number of its services to provide color management workflow for current and future customers.

"Digital communication changes the business: on one hand, with e-commerce applications important additions to already existing sales structures can be made and on the other hand valuable tools can be added to the production of print media", says Holger Reichardt.
"It is Heidelberg's declared goal to provide the customer a complete, scaleable and open solution. We are confident this cooperation will offer our customers improved ways of maximizing their range of digital data delivery and management solutions."

In addition, digital plates will be automated and archived in WAM!NET's centralized storage facility which will create new ways of digital production of print media and which will enhance the idea of the digital printing revolution," added Ed Driscoll.

Through the agreement, Heidelberg and WAM!NET offer solutions which will bring new possibilities to increase productivity: For instance, with WAM!NET's service WAM!PROOF, users at any remote site in the world can print a proof in real-time at multiple destinations simultaneously. To continuously ensure the high-quality color standard, Heidelberg's reproduction and color management technology is applied in the process.
