Heidelberg Introduces New Version of the Delta R.O.O.M Workflow

Delta 6.0 makes the link to Prinergy

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) introduced a new version of its Delta Technology RIP and workflow system at the beginning of December. Customers can order the Delta 6.0 version straight away.

Delta 6.0 makes the link to the Prinergy workflow management system, supports additional output units, offers workflow optimization and meets a whole range of customer demands.

Delta AutoFlow: Integration into Prinergy
The Delta 6.0 version allows direct connection to the new Prinergy workflow management system from Heidelberg and Creo. Delta AutoFlow can automatically process and image PDF documents with the job ticket instructions implemented in Prinergy.

The great advantage of this workflow is its flexibility and reliability. Using Prinergy, the user can exploit the benefits of PDF right up to the very last moment without having to sacrifice his safe R.O.O.M. workflow - thanks to the link to Delta Technology. Prinergy is therefore a valuable extension to Delta Technology.

Support of other output units
Delta 6.0 can now also drive the Trendsetter Spectrum halftone proofer and the Kodak Approval XP. Using the Delta Color Flash Option 731 X, it is also possible to drive the Canon CLC 1000 A3 color copier.

Supporting the Adobe CPSI PostScript interpreter version 3011, Delta 6.0 is able to process and image PDF 1.3 jobs, allowing a much higher processing speed than with PDF 1.2 jobs.

One of Delta 6.0's other interesting features is the support of Harmony calibration software. Using Harmony, calibration curves are generated for controlling dot gain on the printing press, in order to achieve a stable process flow from end to end. In contrast to traditional calibration tools which are designed purely for film, Harmony supports calibration of printing plates, proofs and print sheets. Delta 6.0 is available with Harmony for calibration on the Trendsetter, Trendsetter Spectrum and Kodak Approval.

Workflow optimization with Jobstream
Jobstream is a printer driver plug-in for Adobe PostScript (Macintosh and Windows), which provides more comprehensive support of the composite PostScript workflow than do current PPD settings. The range of functions includes controlling InRIP separation for process and spot colors, changing separation sequences, removing individual color separations, overprinting, and output of JPEG EPS files in separated PostScript.

Additional functions are available which might broadly be described as PreFlight Checks. With the aid of functions such as detection and modification of hairlines, recognition of coarse-resolution images, format and font checks, the risk of imaging errors is greatly reduced. The Jobstream module is a component of Delta 6.0.

With the Delta 6.0 version, Heidelberg has also made another step towards the 100% CIP3 workflow. If a job is to be split (8-up sheet for output on a 4-up imagesetter), CIP3 files can also be generated which can then be used for ink zone calculation.

Customer demands met with ease
To increase flexibility just before the imaging process, Delta 6.0 allows the sequence of jobs in the Delta Tower to be altered according to the job priorities. This is a direct response by Heidelberg to a much-requested wish from customers.

Upwards compatibility is guaranteed with Delta 6.0. The new version also allows the processing of Delta lists (the internal format of the Delta R.O.O.M. workflow) which have been generated in the previous version 5.5.

Delta spool directories in Delta 6.0 function just like export directories in Delta 6.0. This has the advantage of allowing data in the spool directory to be archived and processed at a later stage in the production sequence. This is the first "hold" function of its kind.

New too is the screen angle overwrite function. This means that PostScript documents still awaiting processing whose colors have already been assigned specific screen angles can be subsequently overwritten. This can be done for the screen angles of both process colors and spot colors.
